Doesn't the Bohemian style have an enticing charm? The thing is, in regard to the aesthetics of Bohemian design, it really is astounding how many colors, patterns, and textures can work together to feel both elegant and yet relaxed; and absolutely chic.

The bohemian design is unique in its' design that mixes and marches colors and textures together to make it chic and comfortable at the same time.

Just imagine lounging on a breezy daybed, surrounded by colorful throw pillows and whimsical decor while hanging twinkle lights and beautiful plants; the sun is setting and you hear the sound of a light wind blowing rustling the leaves of a nearby tree. It's a perfect paradise right in your backyard.

You can easily create this bohemian feel of comfort, eclectic style, relaxing space, and coziness in your own backyard, and it really isn't that hard, or expensive.

How to Build a Cozy Boho Lounge in Your Backyard

I understand the idea of converting your outdoor space to a Boho-inspired lounge may sound quite challenging and you may be wondering “Where do I even begin?” or “Do I have to completely overhaul my backyard to achieve this?”, and you feel completely overwhelmed; especially if your see those perfectly styled spaces on Instagram or Pinterest.

You are in luck, you don’t need a huge budget or a designer on your team to get that dreamy boho style you are looking for. You just need to incorporate a few essential elements and some creative inspiration, and you will have a beautiful, cozy, inviting outdoor lounge, with that added boho feeling.

Step 1: Create a Comfy and Cozy Foundation

The foundation of any lounge, indoor or outdoor, is the seating; but we don't just mean any seating, we mean comfy seating that pulls you in and makes you want to cozy up and enjoy some time to relax. It could be oversized cushions grouped, or if you have the space, a low-to-the-ground daybed, with super-soft fabrics floating or topped in cozy blankets. Creating a space to lounge by yourself or with a few friends for an extended amount of time is what your foundation is all about.

Don't worry if you feel your current outdoor furniture doesn't fit the Boho concept; you don't need to rush out and buy new furniture. Rather, you can easily layer your furniture with throws, pillows, and appropriate textiles that best capture that Boho atmosphere.

A neutral sofa can go from bland to amazing with a few pops of color or a playful pattern throw. Or, a simple wooden bench becomes a cozy perch with a fuzzy blanket and a couple of cushions on the floor.

Step 2: Love Textiles

As stated previously, textiles are the secret weapons of the Boho style. Textile adds warmth, texture, and element to your lounge. Woven rugs, macramé hangings, fringed blankets, etc. Boho relies on eclecticism, so don't be shy about mixing different patterns and textures.

Layering textiles is the biggest and most important tool in your belt for Boho decor. Begin with a large, rich, patterned area rug to define your space in the outdoors

Then add smaller patterned rugs or mats within your lounge to create areas of varying purpose. Drape some throws over chairs and the daybed and don't forget to add some cushions of different sizes, fabrics, and textures! The more pillows, the better!

Step 3: The Art of Atmospheric Lighting

Lighting can change the shape and feel of your outdoor lounge. Good lighting is what makes your outdoor space cozy and inviting for an evening place to chill, or late-night chats. If you're going for a Boho-inspired space, you must have soft, warm lighting.

String lights are a must-have for the transformation of outdoor lounge ambiance. They immediately create a whimsy and fairy tale aspect for your outdoor space. Hang them overhead, wrap them around trees, or even drape them across a privacy fence.

Another favorite material is the use of lanterns, once again, on tables or hanging from hooks, adding to the Boho charms and creating a cozy, welcoming, intimate atmosphere. Using candles or solar-powered LED lights as an eco-friendly alternative.

If you're concerned about safety, then use flameless LED candles or shatterproof string lights! They are safe for outdoor use, and you can achieve the same warm glow without worry!

Step 4: Bring in Greenery for that Lush, Natural Effect

No Boho Lounge is complete without a little nature. Plants provide life and freshness to your space, making it feel like an extension of the outdoors. Even small spaces like patios or balconies are perfect for a little greenery.

Use potted plants, hanging planters, or even a vertical garden to create layers of greenery. Use plants that vary in height and texture to create depth and interest. If space is a concern, succulents and cacti work well, they are low maintenance and accent the Boho theme.

Step 5: Add Boho Accents that Personalize Your Lounge

The beauty of the Boho style is in personalization; you're expressing yourself through your space, so don’t be afraid to introduce items that reflect your personality and interests. This could be anything from a collection of colorful ceramic pots to vintage mirrors to handwoven hammocks.

Consider adding global-inspired decor, like Moroccan lanterns, Turkish kilim pillows, or Indian Kanthas. They will add to the Boho feel while adding interest to your lounge area.

Don't be concerned about adding too much and it ends up looking cluttered; just mix and match, and try all your ideas, because you can always add and subtract until it feels harmonious and cohesive.

Conclusion

Your Backyard, a cozy outdoor lounge area with Boho accents is achieved by layering textures, welcoming color, and incorporating a personal element that speaks to you and makes it truly yours.

Between seating, textiles, lighting, greenery, and decor, your backyard can be turned into a Boho retreat, a space to go to, relax, and connect with nature. Go on and bring out those cushions, hang the lights, and let your backyard be transformed into the cozy, welcoming lounge you have always wished for.

Remember though, the most significant feature of any Boho space is you! So, make it a reflection of you!
